Old Ripsey Mine is accessed via the Florence Kelvin Highway. It started production in the late 1800’s and shut down in 1941. A 4×4 capable vehicle is recommended.
Shut down in 1942 by President Roosevelt, vulture mine was once the most productive mine in Arizona having produced almost 600,000 ounces of gold and silver. It is also home of ‘the hanging tree’ where 18 men were hung.
Mattie Blaylock, the common law wife of Wyatt Earp died in July of 1888 from an opium overdose. She was laid to rest in the Pinal City cemetery located outside of Superior, AZ.
